Ukraine is in favour of taking immediate action to strengthen the existing international system of counter proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The Ukrainian delegation spoke at the United Nations in strengthening international action against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction to avoid the possibility of its occurrence from terrorists or non-state groups.

This was stated by the Deputy foreign Minister of Ukraine Serhiy Kislitsa, writes UKRINFORM.

“Given the unstable situation in many regions of the world, there is an increasing risk of use of chemical, biological and nuclear materials as weapons by non-state groups, including terrorists. In this regard, Ukraine stands to take immediate steps to strengthen the existing international system of counter proliferation of weapons of mass destruction,” – said the representative of Ukraine.

One of the challenges is differences in interpretation of the provisions of UN security Council resolution from 2004.

This document stipulates that all States shall refrain from providing any form of support to non-state actors that attempt to develop, acquire, produce, transport, transfer or use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons, particularly for terrorist purposes.
