Even “allies” to the UN understand that Crimea is Ukrainian – Yelchenko
In the UN there is a small group of countries that support the interests of the Russian Federation on the voting. They have their own interests, but none of them questioned the affiliation of Crimea to Ukraine.
This was stated by the permanent representative of Ukraine to the United Nations Volodymyr Yelchenko, writes UKRINFORM.
“There is a circle of so-called “allies” of Russia in the UN. This is roughly the same countries that voted against the resolution on the situation of human rights in Crimea”, – he said.
The Ukrainian diplomat stressed that “these countries a bit and I would say that the vast majority of them does not Express absolute support of Russia’s position”.
“They have their views on the issues of protection of rights, but this does not apply to the affiliation of Crimea to Ukraine”, – said Yelchenko. As for Russia’s role in events in Eastern Ukraine, those countries, avoid using the word “aggression”, but almost all of them know what was going on. “They may not articulate this in their speeches, do not say directly, taking a more neutral stance, however, in our opinion, their sympathies are on the side of Ukraine”, – said the Ukrainian Ambassador.
At the same time, he stressed that those countries that directly support the position of Ukraine in the UN, including the Security Council, “of course, constitute the overwhelming majority”.
