Russia bears responsibility for violations of investors ‘ rights in the occupied Crimea. Such a verdict is announced by the arbitral Tribunal in the Hague on claims of Ukrainian businessman Igor Kolomoisky and “Privat” against Russia.
The claims relate to the Bank assets in the Crimea and the airport “Belbek” in Sevastopol, assigned by the Russians. The court in the Hague issued outside the brackets of the legality of the occupation of the Crimea, but ruled that Russia is responsible for violations of the rights of Ukrainian investors, since March 21, 2014 – the date of signing by Vladimir Putin decrees annexation of Crimea.
Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of international arbitration in these matters. However, the decision of the Hague arbitration Tribunal opened the way for further steps of the Ukrainian investors in international courts.
