“President Petro Poroshenko has signed the Law “On ratification of the Agreement between Ukraine and the Government of Malaysia on extradition”, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on 22 February 2017″, – stated in the message.
As noted, according to the document, Ukraine and Malaysia pledged to give each other on request, in accordance with its domestic law, of persons who are wanted by the other party with the purpose of criminal prosecution or the imposition or enforcement of a sentence.
At the same time, Poroshenko has signed the law on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, which provides for assistance to Malaysia in the investigation and trial of criminal cases.
We will remind, the Verkhovna Rada voted for the ratification of the agreement on February 22.
“The most important thing in Malaysia are now two citizens of Ukraine. They are on trial for smuggling drugs. Although the Treaty does not apply directly to them, but the condition for further negotiations on the conclusion of the agreement on their transfer after conviction to Ukraine is the ratification of this Treaty. Without this, the Malaysian side were not ready to discuss the fate of our citizens”, – said the Deputy Minister of justice in European integration Sergei Petukhov.
