Putin has officially included “army” unrecognized South Ossetia in the Russian armed forces
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed an agreement with the self-proclaimed “Republic” of South Ossetia on joining some units of the “armed forces of the Republic” in the Russian army. This is stated on the official website of legal information of Russia.

“Accept the offer of the government of the Russian Federation on signing the agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on the order of occurrence of the individual units of the armed forces of the Republic of South Ossetia in the Russian armed forces. To instruct the defense Ministry to carry out with participation of the Russian foreign Ministry talks with the South Ossetian side and on reaching the arrangement to sign on behalf of the Russian Federation the agreement, allowing to have a project approved by the government of the Russian Federation, changes of a fundamental character”, – the document says.
Thus, the agreement provides the right of military personnel of the occupied territory of South Ossetia, to serve under the contract on military bases of the Russian Federation. However, to exercise this right, the military should retire from service in the unrecognized Republic.

We will remind, on the night of 8 August 2008, the Russian army entered Georgia after attempts of Tbilisi to restore control over the breakaway republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
During the 5-day war, Russia recognized the independence of these two Georgian regions and has introduced additional troops to its military bases in Georgia.
