In Russia believe that the President of the PACE Agramunt is looking for cooperation with them

The President of PACE Pedro Agramunt looking for opportunities of cooperation with Russia. This was stated by the speaker of the state Duma and the Chairman of the PA CSTO Vyacheslav Volodin, transfer sheet.

Volodin said that the meeting with the speaker of PACE in the framework of his private visit to Russia, discussed the new formats of interaction. For their implementation Agramunt will have to discuss the idea in the PACE Bureau and the decision will be for them.

Russian politician said that Agramunt is under pressure from European colleagues for their stance against Russia. Thus, the European colleagues send out letters asking for his resignation.

In turn, the PACE President noted that difficult questions relating to the conflict in Ukraine, as before, remain the subject of disagreement between the Assembly and the Russian Parliament.

The Russian delegation continues to insist on the amendment to the regulations that would prohibit the PACE to deprive the delegation of voting rights.

Russia this year will not participate in the plenary sessions of PACE and its committees. This was stated by the head of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Leonid Slutsky. “Of course, we won’t take part in plenary meetings, in the work of the relevant committees, but we can participate in various conferences, workshops, or hearings with the political groups of the PACE. I am sure that such events in 2017 should be enough,” he said.

According to him, during the negotiations the head of the Assembly “spoke about the need as soon as possible to restore full-fledged participation of Russia in PACE”.
