The Verkhovna Rada registered the bill, which will provide the possibility of granting the status of combatants volunteers who participated in the ATO in 2014-2015.

This was reported by one of the authors of the bill, the Chairman of the Committee on veterans ‘ Affairs, combatants, participants of the ATO and of people with disabilities Alexander Tretyakov.

Bill No. 8227 “On amendments to article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On status of war veterans, guarantees of their social protection” on the recognition of combatants of individuals from among the participants of the antiterrorist operation” for the volunteers who first went to the defense of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, but then was not included in the legitimate military forces, the MP stressed.

“As you know, volunteers to those of volunteer battalions that are not part of either the APU or the interior Ministry nor the National guard nor other military formations and law enforcement bodies while do not have the status of combatants, and therefore are not at the state level of the corresponding social guarantees and benefits. This bill aims to correct the situation and to regulate their status and provide them with social protection. Thus, it will remove the social tension in the society, which now we have on this issue,” – said Tretyakov.
