The United States want Ukraine to become a NATO member. In their opinion, the implementation of the Ukrainian government Annual national plans – a good way to membership.

This was announced by the U.S. permanent representative to the Alliance Kay Bailey Hutchison, Interfax reported.

Hutchison stressed that the road to membership is long for many countries and doesn’t happen immediately. “The annual national plan is the fact that Ukraine and NATO absolutely can do together,” she said. In her opinion, this will contribute to progress on membership in NATO for Ukraine.

“We want Ukraine to become a NATO member, I can assure you”, – assured the representative of the United States.

She also noted that in the case of the rapprochement between Ukraine and NATO and joining the Alliance should not expect the positive reaction of the Russian Federation. “In the case of Montenegro we saw that Russia is becoming quite aggressive, when countries begin to join NATO,” the diplomat added.

Hutchison also reminded that NATO thought that Russia could become, if not a member of the Alliance, at least a partner. However, now the Russian Federation has resorted to the methods of hybrid and cyber war, as well as to destabilization of the situation in other States to change their stance on NATO membership.

We will remind, on behalf of the President of Petro Poroshenko, his team is preparing amendments to the Constitution that would legalize the desire of Ukraine to join the EU and NATO. Previously, the Alliance has recognized the aspirations of Ukraine to become a full member of the organization.
