Lavrov promised to influence the militants so that they do not let the humanitarian aid in IDLO – UN high Commissioner

The UN high Commissioner for refugees Filippo Grandi said that the Minister of foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov promised to influence the militants so that they do not impeded the delivery of humanitarian aid from the UN residents ORDO.

He stated this in an interview to share Komersanti after talks in Moscow.

On the question of whether that resolves the issue of humanitarian aid in the Donbass, Grande replied:

“You know, I was there too in November. I spent there two days and two nights, the night in Donetsk and night in Lugansk. If Syria, I know well, there I was for the first time. And I saw with my own eyes the degree of destruction is not such as in Syria, but many people lost everything they had.”

While the high Commissioner added that the work of the organization in the Donbas does not facilitate “local government”.

“And we are ready to help them repair homes, give food and medicine, but our work does not facilitate the local de facto authorities. They treat us with suspicion, thinking that we represent a political organization. But we are a humanitarian organization, not a political one. And our task is to help people, to help those who lost homes, especially in the line of conflict,” said the Commissioner.

On the question of whether it was necessary to talk about the situation with the Russian interlocutors, Grande said:

“Yes, and they say: we can’t decide for others. But I’m not asking for them to decide — I ask you to influence them. And they promised me, even Minister Lavrov”.

“In addition, Russia itself supplies to Ukraine humanitarian aid, and accepting refugees from Ukraine and we believe that makes it good,” added the UN high Commissioner for refugees.

We will remind, the state border service reported that in the occupied territories Luhansk and Donetsk regions invaded by the Russian “humanitarian convoy” with the alleged child nutrition.
