Klimkin urged the senators to continue supplying Ukraine with defensive weapons
The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin urged the U.S. Senate to contribute to the supply of defensive weapons to the Ukrainian military.
He said this during a speech in the Committee on appropriations of the U.S. Senate.
“Deliveries by the United States defense weapons and further military and technical support will be a powerful signal to the Kremlin and will significantly improve Ukraine’s ability to defend its territory against the Russian army,” – said Klimkin.
The foreign Minister noted that military support from the United States has already shown its effectiveness: trained by American instructors, the battalion of the 72nd brigade was one of the most effective in repelling the recent attack of Russian troops in Avdeevka.

Also Klimkin asked the senators to support the allocation of funds for security assistance of Ukraine provided the defense budget of the United States to 2017-th year, and to support the allocation of funds for assistance to Ukraine to 2018-th year.
The Ukrainian Minister also stated that Ukraine needs support in the resumption of negotiations between the signatories of the Budapest Memorandum. In his opinion, the United States must play a key role in the negotiations about the Crimea and the Donbass.

“And finally, while Russia will not leave the Ukrainian lands, should be no easing of sanctions, if anything, they should be increased!”, – said Klimkin.
The head of the Ukrainian foreign Ministry is convinced that negotiations with Russia should be conducted only from a position of strength and international solidarity. “And no new transactions should not be reached with Russia as long as it does not fulfill all their previous obligations”, – said Klimkin.
We will remind, Pavel Klimkin is in the USA with a working visit, during which he plans to discuss reforms and territorial integrity of Ukraine. It was reported that Klimkin during a meeting with senators plans to talk about possible ways of collaboration between the United States and Ukraine, as well as the support of Ukraine from the United States, including in the security sphere. The foreign Ministry said that this meeting should give new impetus to Russian-American relations.
