Ukraine goes to the digital economy and society. What this means

Today, January 17, the government at its meeting approved the Concept of development of digital economy and society of Ukraine to 2018 to 2020 and action plan for its implementation, which the Ministry of economic development developed together with leading experts of the it industry.

The document is actually a road map for digital transformation of economy of Ukraine, which after the adoption, you can immediately begin to implement. About this said the press service of the Cabinet. The concept envisages the transition from a resource based economy that consumes natural resources to high-tech industries and efficient processes through the use of IT technologies and communications.

“Today about 35% of the rural population of Ukraine do not have access to broadband Internet. 53% of Ukrainian schools and 99% of medical institutions is also not connected. To remedy this situation possible: through projects of public-private partnership for several years to achieve coverage of broadband Internet more than 80%. The approved Concept will be our guide in this and other tsifrovizatsii processes”, – said the first Vice Prime Minister – Minister of economic development and trade Stepan Kubiv.

The concept provides a key policy priority, initiatives and projects of digitalization of Ukraine for the next three years: the development of digital infrastructure – broadband Internet (broadband) must be in the territory of Ukraine; digitization of educational processes and promotion of digital transformation in the education system, medicine, ecology, cashless economy, infrastructure, transport, public security and so on.

“The successful experience of Sweden, Korea, Estonia, Ireland, Israel shows that the direct effect of the complex development of the digital economy is 20% of GDP within five years. Our ambitious plan up to 2021 through the development of the digital economy – is at least +5% to GDP. This is a brand new quality of life of Ukrainians”, – said Deputy Minister of economic development and trade Mikhail Tytarchuk.
