Russia and Turkey signed an intergovernmental agreement on “Turkish stream“.

The document was signed by energy Ministers of the two countries on the results of negotiations of presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the presence of both leaders.

The agreement provides for the construction of two “threads” of the main pipeline under the Black sea. They must be constructed by December 2019.

Russia is the largest supplier of gas to Turkey. By the end of July 2016, the volume of natural gas imported from Russia amounted to 12.5 billion cubic meters.

For “Gazprom” Turkey is the second largest market after Germany. Russian gas supplies to Turkey are carried out on the gas pipeline “Blue stream” and TRANS-Balkan pipeline.

Note that earlier, Russia froze the launch of the gas pipeline “Turkish stream”, explaining their actions by the economic crisis in Turkey.
