Putin’s influence in Russia is based not on democratic institutions but on the ability to guarantee their adherents full immunity.
The Russian elite will stop supporting Putin, when he will lose the ability to guarantee their personal safety and preservation of capital abroad.
This was stated by Russian opposition leader Garry Kasparov, – UKRINFORM reports with reference to SVS Radio.
“If we can weaken Putin’s ability to influence foreign leaders and to convince the Russian elite and bureaucracy, he vsesilniy, both within Russia and beyond its limits, it can lead to its end,” – said Kasparov.
“His influence in Russia is based not on democratic institutions but on the ability to guarantee to all its supporters – Russian elites, bureaucracy, security forces – immunity before the law, regardless of what they are doing in Russia”, – the oppositionist noted.
According to him, Putin also able to protect the capital of its supporters abroad.
To deprive Putin of this possibility, he urged Canada to adopt the so-called “Magnitsky list”, which will allow to impose sanctions on human rights violators and corrupt officials.
