Hackers from Russia tried to disrupt the process of social payments on the eve of the New year – Turchynov

Hacker attacks on websites of the Ukrainian governmentthat occurred in the recent past, were coordinated from Russia. This was stated by the NSDC Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov.
According to him, attack on the resources of state authorities, critical infrastructure and institutions of the private sector are coordinated from a single center.
“These attacks were planned and coordinated from a single center, located in the Russian Federation”, – said Turinov, adding that the attack is carried out with the use of computer networks located in different countries.

The NSDC Secretary added that the hackers tried to undermine the financial and banking sector on the eve of holidays.
“One of the main objectives of cybercriminals was the destabilization of the financial-banking sector of Ukraine on New year’s eve, which should lead to failure of the campaign for social benefits, complicate the functioning of the leading state institutions and block the budget process,” – quoted Turchynov press service.
He stressed that thanks to the efforts of the specialists of kiberprestupniki of state service of special communication and information protection of Ukraine, security service of Ukraine and functioning of the affected computer systems are promptly restored. Resources connected to the national system of cyber defence, was not injured in the attacks.
Also Turchynov reminded that due to insufficient funding a large number of information resources of state bodies are still not connected to the system.
“In particular, in 2016 foreseen for this purpose funds were not allocated a single penny due to the blocking of the Parliament of the decision on filling the Special Fund of the State budget at the expense of the confiscated funds,” – said the NSDC Secretary, urging to allocate funds for the development of the national system of cyber defence in the budget for next year.
The issues of strengthening of cyber security of state information resources in the context of a hybrid war with the Russian Federation will be considered at the meeting of the National coordination centre for cyber security with participation of the leadership of the government of Ukraine, which will be held today, December 14.
