Merkel urged Putin to restore the truce in Aleppo

It’s not too late to prevent further bloodshed, convinced the Chancellor.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin urged him to forge a truce in Aleppo, Syria, and volunteers of humanitarian organizations to the local population.

This was announced by the representative of the government Steffen Seibert, writes DW.

“It’s not too late to prevent further bloodshed,” – said Seibert. The German government also called for diplomatic solutions and negotiations between the parties to the conflict in Syria, but added that the government of President Bashar al-Assad is unlikely to make it on their own.

According to Seibert, Germany considers Russia and Iran “responsible for persuading the Assad regime” to resume negotiations.
