European politicians stressed the importance of signing the Association agreement.
Today, December 19, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has held a phone conversation with President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz.

During the conversation, the Ukrainian leader thanked European politicians for a clear position on supporting Ukraine during the European Council held in Brussels on 15 December.

“This applies, in particular, unblocking of the process of ratification of the Association Agreement, visa-free regime for Ukraine and to extend sanctions against Russia in response to ongoing violations of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine”, – stated in the message.
Schultz, in turn, confirmed the readiness of the European Parliament to complete all appropriate internal procedures to fulfil the commitments of the EU to grant visa-free regime for Ukrainians.
In addition, he stressed the importance of the early completion of the ratification of the Association Agreement and expressed readiness to assist in this process.
Recall that on 15 December the European Parliament endorsed the introduction of a mechanism for suspension of visa-free regime between the EU and third countries.
Also note that the European Commission has acknowledged that Ukraine has fulfilled all the conditions for visa-free regime in December 2015. In the fall of 2016, the draft on granting the right of visa-free travel to Europe for citizens of Ukraine had been approved by the committees of the European Parliament. In November, the decision approved in the EU Council.
