“The average price of a pack of cigarettes is expected to grow 4.5-5 UAH to 23 UAH”, — said the Director of the Department for corporate Affairs and communications of the company “JTI Ukraine” Alexander Kohut.
According to him, representatives of the industry for several years require a long-term plan of raising excise taxes for 3-5 years.
“This approach is consistent with obligations in relation to the increase in the minimum rates of excise duty to European levels — 90 EUR/1000 PCs Now in Ukraine, the figure is 16 EUR,” said Kohut.
According to estimates by the tobacco industry, for the harmonization of excise rates with the EU in the case of increasing the minimum rate of excise duty 20% Ukraine will need not less than 10 years.
Add that the Council voted to raise in 2017, specific rates of excise duty on cigarettes to 40%, that is, until 445,56 UAH per 1 thousand cigarettes, and this without increasing the ad valorem rate (12%). Also, the Verkhovna Rada raised the excise tax on beer and alcoholic beverage products.
