The foreign Ministers of Russia and Germany discussed the question of enhancing the “Normandy format”
The foreign Ministers of Russia and Germany Sergey Lavrov and Sigmar Gabriel discussed the issue of activation of the “Normandy format” for the implementation of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of the conflict in the Donbass.
A telephone conversation between the Ministers took place on 7 February, reports gazety with reference to the Russian foreign Ministry.
“In the development held on the same day of the telephone conversation of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, the Ministers discussed the steps for more active involvement of the Normandy format for the implementation of the Minsk agreements on the settlement of crisis in Ukraine, including the provision of security in the zone of conflict and the promotion of the political process”, — stated in the message.
Lavrov invited Gabriel to visit Russia for a visit.
Recall, German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telephone conversation on Tuesday, February 7, to use its influence on separatists in Eastern Ukraineto stop the violence there. In addition, both leaders expressed the hope that the fighting in the East of Ukraine will end soon.
