Poroshenko called the newly elected President of Germany, a great friend of Ukraine

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko hopes for further cooperation with the newly elected President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, whom he calls a great friend of Ukraine.

About this Poroshenko wrote in his Twitter, welcoming the former head of the German foreign Ministry with the new position.

“I congratulate Frank-Walter Steinmeier – a great friend of Ukraine with the election of the Federal President of Germany! I hope to continue this friendly and fruitful cooperation for the prosperity of United Europe democratic and free,” wrote the President of Ukraine.

Joined the congratulations and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Vladimir Groisman.

“The Ukrainian government highly appreciates the assistance of Germany and hopes for further cooperation and support of Ukraine by the newly elected Federal President!” – he wrote in Facebook.

Recall that Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Sunday, February 12, was elected as the new President of Germany. For 61-year-old former Minister of foreign Affairs of the country in the first round voted 931 delegate of the Federal Assembly.

Social Democrat Steinmeier was the presidential candidate of the parties of the ruling coalition: Social democratic party of Germany (SPD), the Christian democratic Union (CDU) and Christian social Union (CSU).

Note that the role of President in Germany is mainly ceremonial.
