Ukraine came up with the economic revenge on Russia for blocking transit of goods
In the event of default by Russia of decisions of the world trade organization concerning the release of Ukrainian transit traffic of goods in Kiev promised that it would impose new import duties on Russian goods.
About it on air “Gromadsky” said Deputy Minister of economic development, trade representative of Ukraine Natalia Mykolskiy.
“We can say with high probability that Russia does not comply with the decision of the WTO voluntarily if it will be in favor of Ukraine. So in this case we will use the mechanism of withdrawal of concessions. This means that Ukraine will have the right to cancel in relation to Russia certain benefits that we provide. For example, we can apply additional duties on goods from Russia, to set quotas and so forth,” said Gaina.
Ukraine tried to achieve Russia’s cancellation of the transit restrictions at the stage of consultations. However, Moscow refused dialogue. Therefore, Kyiv has submitted to the WTO the second claim and is preparing for the third.
