In Munich started the negotiations in “Norman format” level of foreign Ministers

In Munich started the talks at the level of foreign Ministers of the countries participating in the “Normandy format” on settlement of situation in Donbas.

Negotiations take place on the sidelines of the Munich security conference with the participation of Ministers of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, Russia’s Sergei Lavrov, Germany’s Sigmar Gabriele and France Jean-Marc Ayrault, UNIAN reports.

On the eve of the talks, Klimkin said he did not expect any breakthroughs from the designated Saturday meeting of foreign Ministers of “Norman Quartet.” However, said that the Ukrainian side there are proposals in the field of security. In particular, this applies to access of the OSCE SMM in the entire territory of Donbas, as well as to the border. Besides, the delegation intends to “consistently put pressure on the humanitarian dimension”.

We will remind, on Saturday, February 18, in the framework of the Munich security conference held a meeting of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO has suspended practical cooperation with Russia, also supports the sanctions until the full implementation by Russia of the Minsk agreements.During the meeting President Poroshenko and Secretary General Stoltenberg agreed to intensify further the work within the target of NATO Trust funds to support Ukraine.

Earlier also it was reported that during the Munich conference Vice-President Mike Pence assured that the States is committed to NATO and is ready to defend Europe.

At the same Time, German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged NATO to strengthen its Eastern flank. According to her, NATO’s role in Europe increased after the annexation of Crimea by Russia.

And Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in turn, said that the termination of cooperation between NATO and Russia is “sad”.
