Disturbing the solution. How the world reacted to Russia’s recognition of the passports of “LNR” and “DNR”

On 18 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree recognized the documents of the terrorist organizations “LNR” and “DNR”.

This move has angered the international community and provoked a storm of criticism and statements by official representatives of the Western partners of Ukraine and other countries.

One of the first is the decision of the Kremlin commented on in the United States. “The recognition by Russia of documents of the separatist “republics” disturbing and contrary to the agreed objectives of the Minsk agreements”, – said in a message posted on Twitter of the U.S. Embassy in Kiev.

The next day, Russia’s actions condemned Germany. In the German foreign Ministry noted that the decision is a violation of the Minsk agreements.

“Recognition issued by the self-proclaimed “Donetsk people’s Republic” documents undermines the unity of Ukraine and is in sharp contrast to everything that was agreed upon in Minsk – and thus totally unacceptable,” – said the representative of the German government Steffen Seibert at a press conference on February 20.

In the French foreign Ministry said that “regret” about the decision of the Kremlin. Paris wants to focus on using its influence on militants to ensure compliance with conditions of the Minsk agreements. “This is the only way to ensure a long-term solution to the crisis in the East of Ukraine”, – stated in the message of the diplomatic corps.
