“Steelworker”, skater and actor with veto power. Biography Vitaly Churkin

In new York, died the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations and the UN Security Council Vitaly Churkin.

Vitaly Churkin was born on 21 February 1952 in Moscow. Was the only child in the family of aviation engineer Ivan Churkin and housewife Maria Petrovna. Since the childhood was engaged in studying of English language. Studied well, but the gold medal had lost as a result played in school intrigues.

Actor and skater

At the age of 13 starred in the first film novels about Lenin “mother’s Heart” from Director Mark Donskoy, and in the films “the Blue notebook” (1963) and “Zero three” (1964). Is also fond of skating, won the city competition.

Diplomatic career

In 1969 he joined the faculty of international relations MGIMO of the MFA of the USSR. As a diplomat Churkin – 1974. At first he worked as a translator, then as press Secretary.

1994-1998 — Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in the Kingdom of Belgium and permanent representative to NATO. 1998-2003 — Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Canada. From June 2003 to April 2006 — Ambassador at large of MFA of Russia.

From 8 April 2006 until his death he was the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations and the representative of the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council.

Its work compared with the labour of Steelworkers, say, a daily 12-hour work days and occasional night vigils on the long and difficult meetings are the rule, not the exception.

The veto

In the period of its activity in the UN security Council has repeatedly used veto power. In particular, 4 February and 19 July 2012 vetoed a draft UN security Council resolution on Syria, March 15, 2014 — on a draft resolution on Ukraine, 29 July 2015 a draft resolution on the establishment of the international Tribunal for the crash of flight MH17.
