Ukraine increased exports of sugar by 33 – Kutovoy
During the 2016/2017 marketing year the export of Ukrainian sugar has increased by 33 times compared with the previous period – to 344 thousand tons.
This was stated by Minister of agrarian policy and food of Ukraine Taras Kutovoy during the first International Congress for producers and processors of sugar beet, the press service of the agriculture Ministry.
“2016 can be defined as a year of clear dynamics. 25% of the previous year increased the area under sugar beet by 30% the production of raw materials, 40% of sugar production. This growth is impressive, if to speak about world practice,” said Kutovoy.
Ukrainian farmers not only grow a good crop of sugar beet, but also qualitative. Improving the quality of raw materials has given the opportunity this season to 6.9 tons per hectare, three times more than in 2010. Due to the growth of productivity in 2016, the gross harvest of sugar beet area of 290 thousand hectares to 13.2 million tonnes, while in 2000 the same number of sugar beet were collected from the area of 747 hectares.
Note that the success of farmers do not affect the ordinary consumers, sugar prices gradually rise, and in the retail network of pounds worth of hryvnia 18-23.
