“Fighters found old weapons in Ukrainian mines”: Russia tried to justify in the Hague

The Russian side during the second day of hearings under the claim of Ukraine against Russia in the International court of justice in the Hague establishes its legal position on the assertion that “the militants in the Donbas have found weapons — the Soviet or abandoned by the Ukrainian army.”

This was stated by one of the representatives of the Russian Federation in the process, the head of the Department of new challenges and threats Ilya Rogachev, reports Ukrainian Pravda.

“The main source of arms which was the rebels — it supplies the Soviet era that was on the territory of Ukraine. Most of these reserves were left in the mines of the Donbass and was the rebels”, — he said.

“In addition, most were abandoned by the Ukrainian army, which ran away,” added the Russian diplomat.

Rogachev did not comment on the evidence provided by the Ukrainian side regarding the use of militants in the Donbas with newest weapons that are in service with the Russian army only.

It should also be noted that the key repository of old Soviet weapons in the Donbas is located in Bakhmut (Artemovsk former). In 2014, the militants for a long time tried to seize relevant military unit in Artemovsk, but met resistance and did not get in.
