North Korean banks from the “black list” was disconnected from SWIFT

Banks of the Democratic people’s Republic, which was included in the sanctions list of the UN, cut off from the international banking system SWIFT.

SWIFT, headquartered in Brussels, has taken this step after Belgian authorities said that will no longer permit such operations.

The Belgian Ministry of foreign Affairs referred to the increasing provocations by Pyongyang, such as the launches of ballistic missiles, to explain its decision.

Also was taken into account the report of the United Nations last month, which said that any trading operation with the North Korean Bank from the “black list” would be a violation of UN sanctions – even if the company has received permission from European governments on this.

So SWIFT was disabled at least three of the Bank of Korea from the sanctions list of the UN – Bank of East Land, Korea Daesong Bank and Korea Kwangson Banking Corp. The first Bank came under sanctions in 2013, the other two – in the past.

It is not known when SWIFT has ceased to provide services as North Korean banks and many financial institutions North Korea was disconnected from the system.

The SWIFT report from 2011 stated that 20 financial institutions of the Korean people’s Democratic Republic was connected to the system.
