Poroshenko wants to take a Ukrainian passport from officials who have another nationality
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a draft law (No. 6175) with respect to the deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship of the officials who received the additional citizenship of another state.
This was on the sidelines of the Parliament said the President’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada Arthur Gerasimov, reports Еспресо.TV.
According to him, today, March 13, Poroshenko submitted to the Parliament and identified as an urgent bill, which deals with “the issues of dual citizenship”.
“The President believes that today this issue should be clearly resolved and situations that occur that officials, especially senior managers, say they have 2, 3 and more passports are unacceptable,” – said Gerasimov.
He noted that this law will be found to be a person who voluntarily acquired a foreign nationality of another state will be considered, which is subject to the requirements of termination of Ukrainian citizenship. Also, the bill specifies grounds for loss of citizenship of Ukraine.
“For example, such a base will now be considered if the person has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of the country, surrendered the passport, or when acquiring the citizenship of Ukraine he also in a certain period of time has not handed over the passport of another state,” he explained.
Gerasimov added that it will affect only those officials who have voluntarily acquired citizenship of another state, that is, the bill does not apply to citizens of the occupied Crimea.
We will remind, the Prosecutor of the Specialized anti-corruption Prosecutor’s office said that suspended the head of the SFS Roman Nasirov is a citizen of the UK and Hungary.
People’s Deputy of Ukraine Mustafa Nayem has also issued the certificate of the presence of suspended SFS head of the Roman Nasirov of British citizenship since 2012.
