In the occupied Donbas, cases of human trafficking and slavery

In the occupied territories Luhansk and Donetsk regions, where for three years the war lasts, the cases of trafficking and slavery. Now Ukraine can not control 400 kilometers of border with Russia, where imported arms, ammunition, and through this uncontrolled part of the border are victims and perpetrators of trafficking.

This was during an open debate of the UN security Council in new York on the theme “human trafficking in conflict: forced labor, slavery and other similar practices”, said Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Sergiy Kyslytsya. The debate was attended by more than 70 delegations of the countries of the world.

“Three years of Russian aggression against Ukraine has led to an increase in risks associated with human trafficking in Ukraine. We also see numerous cases of trafficking and forced labour and even slavery in some regions of Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which are beyond the control of the Ukrainian government,” said Sorrel.

He stressed that Ukraine supports international efforts aimed at combating and preventing the full range of human rights violations and abuses in armed conflict and post-conflict situations. Ukraine stands for the eradication of human trafficking and efforts to combat this phenomenon among priorities of the Ukrainian government in the field of human rights.

Sorrel drew attention to the fact that Russia borders with the occupied Donbass, so from Russia through the uncontrolled border with Ukraine happen the supply of arms and ammunition.

“In addition, Russia is the only member state of the Council of Europe that has not ratified the Convention of the Council of Europe on measures to combat human trafficking,” said Sorrel.

Earlier, the UN has published horrifying statistics about deaths during the ATO.
