Transparency International urges not to admit voting for candidate auditors of NABOO

The mission of the anti-corruption network Transparency International in Ukraine, condemned the meeting of the parliamentary anti-corruption Committee, which approved the candidates for the post of auditor of NABOO.

The organization notes that the meeting was held in violation of the rules, so it results impossible to recognize. In addition one of the selected candidates suspected of having links with Russian oligarchs.

“Parliament last year examined a number of candidates, got them on recommendation from international partners. Suddenly there is the candidacy of Nigel brown, which is generally not evaluated and was not discussed, moreover, up to this time it is unclear under what circumstances, and who offered his candidacy. We condemn such attempts to corrupt the election of the auditor for the most important anti-corruption body,” said Executive Director of TI Ukraine Yaroslav Yurchyshyn.

We will remind, the head of the anti-corruption Committee Yegor Sobolev on the eve is not allowed to be considered at the Committee of the candidacy for the post of auditor NABOO Nigel brown, because “found the manipulation of the workflow of the Parliament to promote Mr. brown.” Sobolev also accused brown of having links with the Russian oligarchs. The next meeting of the Committee Sobolev was appointed on Friday, March 17. However, 13 MPs to bypass the President held a meeting a day earlier and voted for candidates.

Brown’s opponents say that with his help they want to replace him as Chairman of the NAB Artem Sytnik. Those who voted say they voted for two candidates in addition to brown and even the inspector General of the justice Department Robert Storch, and to choose between the two candidates will already be in the session hall.
