We are committed to a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine – trump

The President of the United States Donald trump praised the efforts of Germany and France in resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

About this he said during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“I appreciate the leadership of Chancellor Merkel and the French President in the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, where we are committed to a peaceful solution,” he said.

Merkel also said that he hopes for a peaceful solution to the conflict in the Donbass, but recognizes that there is no progress in the Minsk process.

“I am very pleased to know that the American administration and the President himself declared loyalty to the Minsk process. We must come to resolution of the conflict situation in Ukraine should be resolved safely and peacefully. Minsk is a clear path, but, unfortunately, there is no progress, we were striving for. In the following months we hope to progress,” said the Chancellor of Germany.

In Washington held a meeting of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and U.S. President Donald trump. The leaders were to meet Tuesday, but due to weather conditions the meeting was postponed.

This meeting gave rise to the journalistic and political circles, a lot of jokes and conversations, because it is difficult to find two opposing political views of the leaders. Trump has repeatedly criticized Merkel for giving Syrian refugees a shelter in their country, intimidated the German automakers increase of import tariffs on their products, accusing Berlin and Chancellor for insufficient spending on defense.

For its part, Merkel criticized the U.S. President for his position on the ban on entry into the United States for residents of the seven Muslim countries – this was discussed in their telephone conversation, in which Merkel appealed not only to common sense but also to the Geneva Convention.

Official White house officials have repeatedly stated that trump is likely to ask advice about an important international issue: Russia and policy towards it. The leaders will discuss Ukrainian question.
