In the Council of Europe expressed concern over mass arrests of protesters in Russia
The Secretary General of the Council of Europe thorbjørn Jagland expressed concern over mass arrests of participants of anti-corruption rallies in Russia.
According to him, the actions of the Russian authorities raise the question of the observance by Russia of the European Convention on human rights, said in a statement on the website of the Council of Europe.

“The detention of hundreds of citizens, including opposition leader Alexei Navalny, during the exercise of their rights to freedom of expression and freedom of peaceful Assembly raise questions under the European Convention on human rights. I am particularly concerned by reports of detention of minors. I urge the release of all detainees”, the statement reads.
Furthermore, Jagland added that in Strasbourg ready to engage in constructive dialogue with Russia on this issue.
“The Council of Europe is ready to work with Russian authorities to avoid such situations by adhering to the European Convention on human rights”, – he said.
