Stoltenberg said the cease-fire in the Donbass only on paper

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the ceasefire in Eastern Ukraine exists only on paper.

He said this following the meeting of the NATO Council-Russia, UNIAN reports.

“The ceasefire is not respected, so for this reason it is important to do everything that we can to ensure that the ceasefire is again adhered to. Thus, we have a ceasefire on paper, but it does not work in reality,” he said.

He also said that to ensure that the ceasefire is respected should be provided to international observers full access to the site.

These observers must verify the parties ‘ compliance with the silence regime and to supervise the process of withdrawal of heavy weapons from the contact line.

Recall that NATO and Russia have differences in attitudes towards Ukraine. According to Stoltenberg, the allies expressed strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. They also argue that not to recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Russian authorities do not recognize it in the future.

According to the head of NATO, the situation in the Donbass in Ukraine cause for concern. It is noted that the violation of silence regime reached a record level. In addition, the OSCE observers have repeatedly been the targets of militant attacks.
