NBU allowed the Ukrainians to buy the currency at 12.5 times more

The national Bank of Ukraine adopted a decision to increase the limit on the purchase of foreign currency in cash at 12.5%.

As of April 5, Ukrainians will be able to buy up to 150 thousand hryvnia in the currency during the day.

“Until now, the public has the opportunity to buy foreign currency worth up to 12 thousand hryvnia equivalent to one person per day. Henceforth, the national Bank increased the maximum amount up to 150 thousand hryvnias, that is, up to the amount above which financial transactions with cash are subject to compulsory financial monitoring”, – stated in the message.

Earlier, the head of the NBU Valery Gontareva explained why the necessary foreign exchange restrictions. Remembering the situation of 2014-2015, when the national Bank was forced to introduce currency restrictions, she said that it helped to prevent the outflow of capital from Ukraine and to carry out unfair currency transactions. Also, the NBU managed to stabilise the demand for foreign currency to ensure a rhythmic flow in the interbank market, and to limit its unwarranted outflow from Ukraine.
