Walker will speak with Surkov on the withdrawal from the Donbas controlled by Russia forces

The special representative of the US State Department on Ukraine Kurt Volker announced plans to discuss with Russian presidential aide Vladislav Surkov controlled by the withdrawal of Russian forces in the Donbass and the liberation of the hostages.

He stated on 24 January in an interview with Radio Liberty.

“First of all, about the meeting with Mr. Surkov, I hope to present a vision of US as to what we can do to accelerate the end of conflict. This will require decisions on the withdrawal of its forces. And controlled by forces that are there, in the end should be disbanded,” said Walker.

According to him, one among other issues of discussion with Surkov will be the release of the hostages.

“A lot of people are still being held in the occupied territories, and as you said, directly in Russia. Of course, I plan to raise this issue. I don’t think that’s what mister Surkov dealt with personally, but I hope they will give a message that it is important to continue the release of detained persons on both sides as a step for building confidence and the basis for mutual understanding,” said Walker.
