The European Union has urged Ukraine and Russia to act in the gas dispute in Stockholm solutions
The Ministry of energy of Ukraine and Russia should find a solution to the situation that prevailed in the issue of Russian gas supplies to Ukraine.
This statement was made Vice-President of the European Commission on energy issues maroš Šefčovič, UNIAN reports.
“In the Commission’s view, this situation raises concerns not only regarding direct supply of natural gas to Ukraine, but perhaps also in respect of gas transit to the EU. Therefore, the Commission urges all stakeholders, companies and relevant ministries of Ukraine and Russia to find immediate solutions on the decisions of the Stockholm arbitration Tribunal. The Commission is ready to manage the tripartite process, which in the past has proved to be effective in controversial situations,” the statement said.

Sefcovic insisted that Ministers of Ukraine and Russia should reaffirm its position as a reliable supplier and transit country for gas, as it has been in recent years.
The Ukrainian side informed the European Commission about a possible emergency situation in the Ukrainian gas transportation system. “This question, according to the information that is available to the Commission, is based on three elements: continuous low, and different pressure for gas supplies from Russia to Ukraine for transit to the EU: this is not a new phenomenon and has been investigated by the EC and the European network of transmission system operators (ENTSOG) with ”Naftogaz” and ”Gazprom” last year. However, under the current circumstances (low temperature, high domestic gas demand, the expected direct import from Russia) low pressure in the gas transmission system is especially problematic,” – said the press service of the Vice-President of the European Commission Energoprom.

Another element mentioned was the lack of direct deliveries ”Gazprom” to ”Naftogaz”: looks like that ”Naftogaz” and ”Gazprom” could not agree on the terms of natural gas imports, despite the decision of the Stockholm arbitration Tribunal, which led to the failure in the supply of natural gas, even pre-paid “Naftogaz” in volumes.
The Commissioner also added that the reverse flows from the EU in the short term is challenging because of the tight spot market and difficulties for the technical restructuring of the flows within the transmission system.
We will remind, “Gazprom” begins the dissolution of all previously concluded with Ukraine contracts. It comes as the contracts to supply gas to Ukrainian consumers, and the agreement on transit of gas to Europe. This step in “Gazprom” explained that the decision of the Stockholm arbitration violated the interests of the company. In turn, the NJSC “Naftogaz of Ukraine” and the Polish gas company PGNiG has signed a contract for the urgent supply of gas after the statement of the Russian “Gazprom” about refusal of deliveries of blue fuel to Ukraine. Daily volume is more than 60 million cubic meters.
