President Petro Poroshenko will submit to Parliament the unilateral termination of certain provisions of the Big Treaty between Ukraine and Russia.

He announced during a speech at the Kiev security forum on April 12.

“I will be introduced to the Ukrainian Parliament a draft law on the immediate unilateral termination of certain provisions of the Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and Russia in part of this agreement, which is not compatible with the national interests of the state and the realization of our Ukrainian right to self-defence. Such an opportunity is given to us by international law and no one argues with the fact that because of the refusal of the Kremlin to stop the aggression against Ukraine as a separate article of the basic Treaty became notorious anachronisms” – said the head of state.

It is, in particular, articles about the strategic partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation or the provisions on bilateral cooperation in the sphere of military and military-technical cooperation, or cooperation with Russia in the sphere of national security of Ukraine.

“Why can’t you cancel this Contract? We only suspend the action of individual articles. Important for Ukraine are the provisions in which the parties respect the territorial integrity, reaffirm the inviolability of borders. Under international law, the provisions of the Contract remain in force regardless of future annulment by the Council of certain provisions”, – said Poroshenko.
