Russia needs to see “a constructive mechanism for the implementation of the Minsk agreements.”
The UN peacekeeping mission in Eastern Ukraine should be based on a special approach, and the mission itself not to be like other peacekeeping formats.
This was stated by the special envoy of the US state Department on issues of negotiations on Ukraine Kurt Volker, writes UKRINFORM.
They say, we do not mean “traditional missions of peacekeeping operations”, which are introduced in the UN system, it would have to be “voluntary participation” of different countries. “And their role there (in the Donbas – ed.) would have to be reduced to a transitional mechanism in order to move away from the current situation under Russian control, the situation under the Ukrainian control. Therefore, it must be the mechanism of the transition,” explained Walker.
