Russian diplomats believe the granting of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s attempt “to establish a pocket Church”.

The Ukrainian government seeks “to sacrifice russophobian policy of” religious peace in our own country, creating an Autocephalous Church.

This was stated at a briefing the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, writes TASS.

“It is the intention of the current Ukrainian authorities to establish a controlled pocket Church, the backbone of which would have amounted to absolutely no one recognized the schismatic structure,” she said.

According to Zakharova, the attempted implementation of the scenario, which causes extremely controversial reaction among the clergy and faithful, “going against the interests directly of the Ukrainian people”.

In addition, the representative of the Russian foreign Ministry believes that it can significantly complicate the already “very tense internal political situation” and to provoke further deepening the split in society.

“In such actions there is a willingness to sacrifice Russophobic politics, and religious world in their own country, to go on direct violation of the Constitution and, apparently, to rewrite the Orthodox canons,” – concluded Zakharov.

Recall President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko officially took an appeal to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew regarding the autocephaly of the Orthodox churches of Ukraine. Thus, the appeal gave Patriarch Filaret and Metropolitan Macarius with the signatures of all the bishops of the UOC-Kyiv Patriarchate and the UAOC. One Local Church may appear in Ukraine for the celebration 1030-anniversary of the baptism of Kievan Rus, that is, until the end of July.

Meanwhile , the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate of the autocephaly does not support. Like, enough for them to be subordinate to Moscow.

In turn, the Ecumenical Patriarchate has already started the proceduresnecessary for granting autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
