The President explained why Ukraine should be the Church.

Ukraine has the right to an independent Orthodox Church, and the granting of autocephaly within the competence of the Patriarch of Constantinople, in which submission was Metropolitan of Kiev since its appearance at the baptism of Rus by Prince Vladimir. On this the President said Petro Poroshenko in an interview to journalists, the press service of the head of state.

“We are not against someone. Take the Church – each country should have its own. It turns out that only Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova does not have such a right. Before the war with Russia’s internal clashes within the Orthodox Church may be acceptable. But as a result of Russian aggression – no more. The Russian Orthodox Church acting on behalf of Russia”, – said Poroshenko.

Today, the President brought leaders of parliamentary factions and reported he recently spoke with the Church hierarchy in Istanbul, and has already been agreed, the details of which Poroshenko has not yet disclose.
