According to the head of the Italian government, the question of sanctions need to be more balanced.

Italy is going to defend at the EU summit, which is scheduled for July 9, the rejection of the automatic extension of sanctions against Russia.

This was stated by Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte on the eve of the EU summit in Brussels, writes Deutsche Welle.

“We confirm the principle that the issue of sanctions (against Russia because of aggression against Ukraine and annexation of Crimea – approx.ed.) nothing should happen automatically,” he said.

According to Conte, the EU needs a more balanced approach to the issue of anti-Russian sanctions.

Earlier, Giuseppe Conte called for the revision of sanctions against Russia for its aggression against Ukraine. According to him, the sanctions should be a tool that “should not stifle the development of healthy relations with Russian civil society”.
