After the ceremony, Poroshenko noted that Senator McCain was near Ukraine and Ukrainians in the critical moments of our history.

“We all remember him on the Maidan during the revolution of Dignity, when at a temperature of minus 26 degrees he came out naked, touched hundreds of thousands of people who stood on the Maidan in order to make absolutely necessary then words of support. The whole world and the United States of America, together with the Ukrainians. And when it was necessary to consolidate peace during the Munich security forum – he was a leader and helped us,” he said.

The head of state expressed gratitude to the Senator for support.

“You are a true American hero, but you and a true hero of Ukraine. Thank you” – said Poroshenko.
