Ukraine calls for expanding the list of sanctions against Russia, – Klimkin

Foreign Ministry checks information about Ukrainian prisoners not only from relatives but also from international human rights organizations, lawyers.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said about the preparation of the additions to the sanctions list against Russia ‘s imprisonment of Ukrainian citizens.

“We will try to adapt this list as we have clear information about who is involved in the processes in relation to our political prisoners. Because, in order to put a person to the sanctions list, we need real evidence,” – said Klimkin.

We will remind, on December 15, EU leaders agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia through aggression in Ukraine. The formal process to extend the sanctions for another six months in relation to the defence, energy and financial sectors of Russia will begin next week. The sanctions were imposed after the occupation of Crimea and Russian participation in a military conflict in the Donbass, which has already claimed over 10 thousand lives.

The leaders of the European Union decided to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months. This decision was taken at the EU summit until late in the night continued in Brussels.
