Parubiy defended the education act before the experts of the Venice Commission

Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy paruby, told the delegates of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe his vision of the new educational law. According to an UNIAN correspondent, the speaker defended the idea of mastering all citizens of the state language, but denied the attack on the languages of national minorities.

Parubiy noted the possibility of representatives of national minorities through knowledge of the Ukrainian language to implement the constitutional right to education and work in public authorities. Also knowledge of the state language is a safety issue, as the teams in the army is given to this language, so their implementation need to understand Ukrainian. “For us this is important because this is an issue of Ukraine’s future – this can not be that citizens do not speak the language of the state. At the same time, also can not allow discrimination of national minorities”, – said Parubiy.

Also, the speaker of Parliament drew the attention of the Commission that the provisions of the law comply with international obligations of Ukraine. “I very much hope that as a result of this debate, and a detailed study of the law we come to the conclusion that this law corresponds to the Constitution of Ukraine and international standards,” he said.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on education angered politicians in countries that have national minorities on the Ukrainian territory.
