The Ministry of veterans Affairs is primarily a tool for building in Ukraine of an effective system of social protection of veterans of military actions — similar to the long-running in the USA, Australia, Canada, Croatia.

About this in his article for “a mirror of Week” wrote the people’s Deputy, head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee for Affairs of veterans, combatants, participants of the ATO and of people with disabilities Alexander Tretyakov.

“The reason why this tool is needed, is simple: the current system of social protection of veterans of the Ukrainian bureaucratic, chaotic, and, as a result, ineffective. Hundreds of thousand people have the status of combatants, but did not receive due attention from the state. Therefore, to postpone the solution to this problem then it would be simply short-sighted and irresponsible. We need a clear government strategy to overcome short – and long-term implications of Russian aggression. And these consequences are and will be”, – said the MP.

According to Tretyakov, the creation of a relevant Ministry – the only way to optimize the development processes in the sphere of social protection of veterans.

“The issues of social protection of veterans and combatants are currently 20 ministries and agencies and local authorities. In the end, none of them bears full responsibility, and suffer from the veterans and families of martyrs. You need to create a single state body responsible for the effective implementation of the state strategy of social protection of veterans. What this way is effective and constructive, evidence and international experience,” he said.

According to Tretyakov, the creation of the Department of veterans Affairs will also provide the proper control over the implementation of budget programs and will significantly simplify the procedure for registration of documents and obtaining of benefits because of all the issues on social protection of participants ATO and family members of victims will be addressed in a single Agency. And will also allow the system to approach the issue of social protection of veterans, military members and their families.
