A group of 27 U.S. senators sent a letter to President-elect Donald Trump, urging him to take a tough stance against Russia because of the seizure of the Ukrainian lands.
A letter signed by 12 Republicans and 15 Democrats, Reuters reports.
“In light of the ongoing aggression by Russia and repeated failure to respect Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereign right to choose its own destiny, we also reiterate our call to the United States to increase political, economic and military support for Ukraine”, – said in the letter.
The senators also said that the annexation of Crimea by Russia cannot be accepted and the United States should not lift sanctions imposed on Russia for its actions in Eastern Ukraine.

Among the Republican senators who signed the letter were John McCain, head of the Committee of the Senate on Affairs of armed forces, and Lindsey Graham, head of the Subcommittee on appropriations, which oversees the State Department.
Recall that during the election campaign Vladimir Putin has called Donald trump’s brilliant. In response, the Republican said that if he wins the election he will be “very, very good relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin and with Russia.” In addition, he said that if elected President, will consider the possibility of recognition of Russian Crimea.
At the same time, U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry said recently that the change of the US administration after the election for the position of Donald trump will not change the policy of States towards its allies, particularly Ukraine.
