The President supported the introduction of sanctions because of Moscow’s actions in Syria.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko congratulated the unanimous decision of the European Union to extend the sectoral economic sanctions against Russia.

About this he wrote on his page in Facebook.

“I am sincerely grateful for the strong unity and solidarity of European leaders on the issue of restoration of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea. Despite the manipulation and hybrid propaganda, Russia has failed to avoid responsibility for the continuing aggression in the Donbas and the unwillingness to implement the Minsk agreements”, – said the President.

Poroshenko added that “Russia must also pay a high price for the heinous war crimes that it has supported and committed in Syria, mainly in Aleppo”.

We will remind, on December 15, EU leaders agreed to extend economic sanctions against Russia through aggression in Ukraine. About it reports Reuters, citing diplomats. The Agency notes that the decision was quite expected, and the formal process of extending the sanctions for another six months in relation to the defence, energy and financial sectors of Russia will begin next week. The sanctions were imposed after the occupation of Crimea and Russian participation in a military conflict in the Donbass, which has already claimed over 10 thousand lives.
