The foreign Ministry explained why the Hague court of Ukraine has not raised the issue of Russian occupation
During the hearings in the International court of justice case “against Ukraine” the Ukrainian side is deliberately not presented the question of Russian aggression and occupation of Crimea in order to strengthen its legal position and to avoid accusations of politicizing the judicial process. This was stated by the Deputy foreign Minister of Ukraine Olena zerkal, reports DT.UA.

According to her, the international Court of justice is a very conservative court. Due to the fact that Russia is trying to weaken the Ukrainian position on the issue of jurisdiction Ukraine has decided to act in a reliable legal framework established by the two conventions.
“Therefore, we deliberately did not put before the Court the question of the occupation of the Ukrainian territory, territorial belonging of Crimea, the presence or absence of Russian troops in the Donbas. We’re talking about the dispute as purely legal matter in which we are seeking legal protection for the citizens of Ukraine”, – she noted.

According to the columnist, Vladimir Kravchenko, in spite of the fact that the case relates to the consequences of the actions of the Kremlin, presented by Kiev, the claim does not concern issues of Russian aggression and occupation of Crimea by Russia, since the international court of justice has no authority to consider these issues.
In the International court of justice Ukraine can defend their rights only by separate international treaties, the jurisdiction of which is recognized as the Kiev and Moscow. Such agreements are only three: the UN Convention on the law of the sea Convention for the suppression of the financing of terrorism and the Convention on the elimination of all forms of racial discrimination.

Recall that during the preliminary hearings of the Russian side in the “Ukraine against Russia,” the defense of the Russian Federation has accused Ukraine of using chemical weapons and claimed that now in Ukraine is “civil war”.
