600 million Euro or Ukrainian forest. The EU still insist on the lifting of the moratorium on the export of logs

To receive 600 million Euro macro-financial assistance from the EU Ukraine is only necessary to register a bill lifting the moratorium on the export of unprocessed wood. This was stated by the head of the EU delegation in Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli, Interfax reported.

“No, just register the draft law in Parliament,” said Mingarelli.

He noted that the moratorium on the export of “logs” were introduced, contrary to the obligations of Ukraine in the WTO and the Association agreement with the EU.

Also, according to the representative of the EU, another condition for providing the country Finance is the decision of the Ukrainian authorities the issue of providing social benefits to internally displaced persons in Ukraine.

“Much has been done, but it is important that all internally displaced persons have received their payments, even those that is not yet registered, – Mingarelli said.

According to him, once these issues are resolved, Ukraine in a few weeks will receive the promised funding.

We will remind, on March 16 the European Commission adopted a decision to allocate to Ukraine the second tranche of macro-financial assistance in the amount of 600 million euros.

Prior to this, on 10 February during a meeting of the Ukrainian government Volodymyr Groysman and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker in Brussels the EU said that the EU is ready to allocate the second tranche, in the hope that the government and Parliament of Ukraine will be able to fulfill a key condition to lift the ban on the export of roundwood, introduced in 2015 for a period of 10 years.

“As soon as the government will present a bill on a moratorium on the export of timber in Parliament is, from my point of view, a sufficient condition for the issuance of 600 million euros, Ukrainians expect that this will happen in the coming weeks”, —said the head of the European Commission.

In turn, Groisman said that this macro-financial assistance will be allocated in the budget and in addition have a positive impact on the development of the economy of Ukraine.
