The participants of the “Normandy format” are ready to extend sanctions against Russia – Poroshenko

European partners of Ukraine are ready to extend sanctions against Russiaif it does not adhere to the safety package of the Minsk agreements.

This was stated by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a press conference after talks with the President of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis in Riga, writes “Interfax-Ukraine”.

“If Russia does not demonstrate its willingness to implement the security package, our partners are ready to extend sanctions against Russia, as an effective mechanism of motivation of the Russian Federation to comply with its obligations during the signing of the Minsk agreements”, – he said, expressing gratitude to the European partners.

In addition, the head of state said that during yesterday’s telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande agreed on the initialization of the agenda for the summit “Norman format”, “where we must demand compliance with and implementation of the Minsk agreements, to discuss a road map of the Minsk agreements, the implementation of this process.”

We will remind, on 29 March in Minsk the Trilateral contact group (TAG) agreed to full compliance with the cease-fire regime in ATO area in the Donbas since April 1.

The Ministry of defence of Ukraine declared that is ready to fulfill the agreements on ceasefire in the ATO zone since April reached in Minsk. This was announced by the speaker of the defense Ministry ATO Col. According to him, the Ukrainian side expects reciprocal steps from the side of the enemy.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko instructed the General staff of the Armed forces of Ukraine and the Ministry of defence of the ceasefire in the Donbas since April. According to the President, this initiative was offered by Ukraine.

At the same time the chief of staff and defense Minister reported to Poroshenko that any day since 1 April , the Russian side did not adhere to the regime of silence in Donbas.
