A court in Kyiv banned the Sberbank of Russia to use the name “Sberbank”

Today, April 18, the Economic court of Kiev has satisfied the requirement of”Oshchadbank” on the prohibition of Sberbank of Russia to use the brand of “SBERBANK”.

“We have defended the legitimate interests of “Oschadbank”, and with them the interests of millions of Ukrainians that they were not misled. Because brand of “SBERBANK” belongs exclusively to the State savings Bank of Ukraine. We were able to clearly explain your legal position to provide convincing written evidence to the court and argue significant weaknesses of the evidence and the positions of the opponents,” – commented the decision of the Chairman of Board of “Oshchadbank” Andrew Lush.

The court also invalidated ten brands of Sberbank and deprived him of a domain name sberbank.ua.

On 15 January, the Ukrainian state-owned “Oschadbank” has filed a lawsuit to the Economic court of Kiev against the “Sberbank of Russia”. The reason for the dispute, renaming its Ukrainian “daughter” of “Sberbank of Russia” and “Sberbank”.

The Bank noted that it has exclusive rights to use trademarks “Sberbank” on the territory of Ukraine and requires another renaming.
